Equinor's Board of Directors has appointed Anders Opedal as the new president and CEO of Equinor as of November 2, 2020. Eldar Sætre will retire after six years as CEO and more than 40 years with the company.

Anders Opedal comes from the position of executive vice president of technology, projects and drilling. He joined Equinor as an oil engineer in 1997, spent many years in Drilling and Wells and served as Purchasing Director. In 2011, he was chosen to lead Equinor's approximately NOK 300 billion project portfolio. Subsequently, he served as executive vice president and chief operating officer before assuming the role of senior vice president and national manager in Brazil. Opedal has a master's degree in engineering from the Norwegian Institute of Technology (NTNU) and an MBA from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh.

"Anders Opedal has deep knowledge and extensive experience in the energy sector. He rose through the ranks of Equinor and demonstrated exceptional leadership and delivered results that exceeded expectations. As the first engineer to become CEO, he is passionate about technology, digitization and development An unanimous Council is confident that Anders is the right person to further develop Equinor as a force for green change and, together with our dedicated people, further strengthen the company's culture and our safety performance, "says Jon Erik Reinhardsen chairman of the company's Board of Directors.
